While watching the “Larry King Live” show last night, Larry King announced that he would be leaving the show after 25 years. Larry let everyone know that he would be ending his run on late night TV on his twitter page right before the show was taped and ready to air for broadcast. He twittered to his fans, “Announcing tonight: I’m ending my nightly show this fall but continuing at CNN.”
Too much surprise, fans were shocked by the news and began to pour out their comments about him leaving the show. When the show aired, Larry King stated “Before I start the show tonight, I want to share some personal news with you. 25 years ago, I sat across this table from New York Governor Mario Cuomo for the first broadcast of Larry King Live. Now, decades later, I talked to the guys here at CNN, and I told them I would like to end Larry King Live, the nightly show, this fall and CNN has graciously accepted, giving me more time for my wife and I to get to the kids’ little league games.”
“I’m incredibly proud that we recently made the Guinness Book of World Records for having the longest running show with the same host in the same time slot. With this chapter closing, I’m looking forward to the future and what my next chapter will bring, but for now it’s time to hang up my nightly suspenders.” With little dismay, the nightly host also announced, “I’ll still be a part of the CNN family, hosting several Larry King specials on major national and international subjects.”
The media is now reporting that the radio interviewer who has entertained viewers for decades will appear on CNN specials frequently because who could not see himself turning away from television permanently. There has also been speculation that the show is ending because of declined ratings and personal matters that have affected Larry’s professional career.
After weeks of infidelity rumors and divorce court filings, Larry and his wife have reconciled. Since then Shawn, his wife tried to attempt suicide by overdosing on prescription drug pills. The couple has remained committed and Larry is sticking by her side, and she goes through recovery. Some people are speculating that all the drama has caused the CNN ratings to decrease.
Larry King’s departure will make an open time slot for the CNN network. I wonder who the line-ups are for the late night spot. There has been some speculation that Ryan Seacrest and maybe Katie Couric would be some possible replacements. Well, whoever it may be, no one will be able to do the job that Larry did. For Larry, it wasn’t a job, it was amazing reporting, and what he absolutely love
