Twilight: Eclipse

Movies

Newborn vampires have rained havoc over the city of Seattle and been following a leader, none like any other vampire that the Cullens has ever been associated with.  The mystery of the slayings is unclear, but Edward has a feeling that Victoria or the Volturi is up to something, and it doesn’t look good.  Little does he know that there is about to be a war between the Cullens and the newborns which will involve more than just vampires this time around.

Through all the turmoil, Edward decides to take Bella to Florida to visit her mom and keep her away from any danger that may be lurking in Forks.  While she is gone, Bella has an intruder come into her house and take a shirt that belongs to her, which gives him an edge on the Cullens.  This intruder is a newborn vampire and is involved with the series of killings in Seattle.  When Edward and Bella get back to Forks, Edward knows immediately that an unknown vampire has been in the house with Charlie and has his family take turns watching over her and her father.

At school, Bella has a run in with Jacob.  He tells her that Victoria came back when they were in Florida and that Bella maybe in danger.  Bella feels a little deceived and heads to La Push with Jacob without Edward’s approval.  While Jacob and Bella are in La Push, Bella tells Jacob that she will be transformed into a vampire after graduation, which was only a month away.  Feeling desperate, Jacob leans in for a kiss and Bella punches him in the face which leaves her with a broken hand.  As soon as they cross the territorial line, Edward is waiting, and he is pissed.

Edward is aware of what happened when Jacob and Bella were in La Push because he was reading Jacob’s thoughts the whole time.  He knows that Bella punched Jacob, so he takes her to his father to have her hand looked at.  Dr. Cullen lets Bella know that she had just sprained her hand, and that it is nothing serious, but that they need to get a handle on all the killings and fast.  As the murders pile up, the Cullens reach somewhat of a treaty with the wolves in order to protect Bella and stop the slayings.

The Quileute tribes speak of imprinting, which is a form of a love connection unlike no other.  Jacob feels that Bella loves him, but is afraid to tell her the truth because she would begin to question her true feelings for Edward.  In the meantime, Edward proposes to Bella, and she accepts, but is afraid to tell Jacob, so she keeps it from him.  As the Cullens and the vampires train for the army of newborns, Edward and Jacob decide not to join forces in the fight and end up staying with Bella in the midst to protect her.

Before Edward, Bella and Jacob head up to the mountains to keep Bella away from the newborns, the Cullens realize Victoria is controlling the newborns which are blood thirsty and willing to do anything for the kill and know that she must be stopped for good.  As the storm passes, Bella reaches uncontrollable low temperatures and Jacob has to use his body heat to keep Bella warm.  The love triangle between Edward, Bella and Jacob gets even more intense the following day.

The next morning, Edward tells Bella that he loves her and can’t wait to marry her.  Jacob overhears them talking and gets extremely upset and leaves to join the fight.  At the time, Edward knew that Jacob was coming and would overhear the two of them talking.  Once Bella realizes what Edward has done, she follows Jacob to make it right.  Jacob convinces Bella that she loves him too, and they start kissing.  She says goodbye to Jacob and heads back to Edward.  Edward knows what just happen from Jacob’s thoughts and the look in Bella’s eyes.  She tells him that she loves Jacob, but loves him more.

Jacob joins in the battle and Victoria and the newborn trace Edward’s scent and find Bella.  Edward defeats Victoria and the newborn army is destroyed.

The book ends with Bella telling Jacob that her feelings for Edward are stronger, and that they could never be together.  Jacob receives an invitation to their wedding and is heartbroken.  He escapes and realizes that Bella has made her decision and is going to be a vampire.

After watching the Eclipse in theaters, I have to say that the movie was more than I imagine and by far the best of the three movies.  The movie was exceeded all my expectations and was better than the novel this time around.
