The Twilight series was written by Stephanie Myer, based on a very vivid dream that she had back in June of 2003. Her dream began with two very different individuals having a passionate conversation in a grassy field among the trees. Out of the two individuals, there was a younger looking girl and the other individual was the most handsome, breathtaking man that ever walked the planet. The man had a secret and soon the story would begin.
Within the meadow, the two individuals were discussing how they cannot be together. It seemed that they loved one another, but that the vampire couldn’t help to be attracted to the smell of her blood. He was restraining himself and could not control the feelings he had. He wanted to slay the average looking girl and that seemed to be the only thing on his mind, but something inside him held him back.
A small image of my dream led to this amazing series of books. Stephanie Myer could not make herself put down her pen and stop writing. She eventually created the names of the main characters and then Twilight was conceived into something more than I ever imagined it could be. Myer became obsessed over the book and within 3 months was committed to checking out the possibilities of getting the book published.
Once Edward and Bella were created the writing unfolded. Isabella “Bella” Swan a seventeen year old girl who lived with her mother, Renee in sunny Phoenix, Arizona was sent to live with her father, Charlie in the rainy town of Forks, Washington where she meets Edward Cullen the magnificent vampire who turns her world upside down. From what seemed to be a boring life to the now vulnerability of danger that surrounds the new found love that she was soon to find, Bella couldn’t be more confused to see what would unveil before her.
When Bella arrives in Forks, she is welcomed to her new home with an old faded red truck in the driveway and some very familiar faces. One of which is a family friend named Jacob Black, who is younger but extremely good looking. She is given the old red truck from her father as a welcome home gift and soon enough she is off to her new school where she runs into Edward Cullen.
Bella and Edward’s eyes soon meet one another when she is befriended by several students and invited to sit at their lunch table. Within minutes of meeting the new students she can see that the boys are just thriving for her attention, but she cannot seem to stop starring over at the other table where Edward and his brothers and sisters are sitting.
After lunch, she gets to her Science class a little late and is made to sit next to Edward in the empty seat. The whole class period, Edward looked disgusted and would not even look at Bella. She kept thinking that she smelt bad or that there was something wrong with her. Right after class, Bella walks into the admission’s room to find Edward asking the guidance counselor for a schedule change, so he can get out of the Science class. Bella couldn’t believe her ears and left school very upset and in disbelief.
The next day, Bella was surprised not see Edward at school. She did not know what to think, but something about him intrigued her even though she thought in the back of her head that he wasn’t at school because of her. The days went by and still no Edward, but that didn’t last long, the next week he came back to school and could not avoid her any longer. He was like a different person when he sat down next to her in the very same seat as before. At first, she tried to ignore him but then ends up confronting him about his previous unacceptable behavior. He apologizes and soon enough you begin to see their relationship expand into something more.
Sometime after, the novel reaches a turning point when Bella is nearly hit by another classmates van but Edward saves the day by stopping the van from hitting her with bare his hands and body. Bella is not even hurt, but it is forced to go to the hospital with the Eric, who was the driver. At the hospital, Bella is determined to know how Edward saved her and blocked the van from smashing her. She refuses to stop questioning him even though he tells her that she was in denial and had lost her mind.
On a small day trip to the beach in La Push, Bella runs into Jacob Black, who tells her about the native legends, and she finds out the Cullens are vampires. Jacob also warns her to stay away from the Cullens because they only lead to trouble. However, Bella does the exact opposite and gets even closer to Edward and his family. Edward finally confines to Bella that he and his family are vampires and drink the blood of animals and not humans.
Throughout the book, he is constantly there to save her no matter where she is and their love grows stronger and stronger for one another. In the mist of all their time together, another vampire comes to Forks and intrudes, making it extremely difficult for Bella to be involved with Edward. James, the blood sucking vampire comes to prey on innocent humans and invites other vampires to Forks.
James is immediately attracted to Bella’s scent and realizes that she is human. He wants her and refuses to give her up and will not stop tracking her until he finds her. Edward and his family come up with a plan to distract James by hiding Bella, but the plan backfires and Bella finds herself in a very scary situation. She receives a phone call from what she believes is her mother in Phoenix frightened for her life.
Bella makes her way to Phoenix to save her mother from the non-human vampire, James but shortly finds out that he set her up, and now she is trapped. Bella is soon alone and vulnerable, she has nowhere to turn or run to. James attacks her and bites her right before Edward comes to her rescue and saves the day. Edward arrives first and then shortly after the whole Cullen clan is there. They kill James and Edward sucks the poison out of Bella’s hand, so she does not turn into a vampire.
Later, Bella wakes up in the hospital to find Edward and Renee in the room. Bella tells Edward when her mother steps out of the room that she loves him and nothing will ever change that. When they returned to Forks, Edward picks up Bella and takes her to the prom, which was not her cup of tea. She tells him that she wants him to change her into a vampire, but Edward refuses.
