Google May Increase Their Profits with Digital Books

Google

With Apple E-books making history, Google also wants to be a part of that history by beginning a new research project, which will provide consumers with digital books on the internet.  On Wednesday, Google announced that they have approved funding of almost half a million bucks for studying the extreme growth of their online library.  The company plans to use the money to pay for the 12 reader assignments, which will review thousands of books and inform Google of their findings.

Once the researchers have their findings, Google plans to evaluate and implement their conclusions.  The tests will then be validated and Google will turn thousands of ordinary books into electronic or digital books on the internet.  Their online library will hopefully be the place a consumer would gravitate to.   You will be able to read Google’s books instead of picking up a hard copy at your local bookstore with this advanced system.

It’s Google’s belief that these electronic books will spike their profit margins, but critics are not happy and feel that this violates all copyright laws set in place.  Why should Google be able to overlook laws to boost profits, when others can’t?  Laws are made for a reason and not even the largest search engine should be above the law.

Google awaits a ruling by a federal judge to give them all rights for ordinary books to be made into electronic copies available through the internet.  There may be people protesting outside the courthouse, if the government approves such laws because justice may not be served with these rulings according to the U.S. Department of Justice rival associates.

Not only would it be unfair, but other researchers feel that this may affect book stores and libraries all over the world.  Some researchers are saying that because digital books would be more convenient, bookstores would have to close their doors.  People will be more inclined to read a book online versus going to a bookstore to read that very same literature.  Unfortunately, this does not look good for Barnes n Nobles or any bookstore for that matter.  Google may very well cause many bookstores to go out of business and before you know it; more people will be out of a job and unemployed.

Google doesn’t feel that way though, they know that electronic books would allow people to get more knowledge with just a few clicks of the mouse.  Consumers will no longer have to wait to get their hands on a book to read, with this new online library, books will be available at your fingertips, which in reality means more power for Google.  What do you think?
