Ok, so if you’re anything like me you often set your phone down only moments later to be running around like a chicken with its head cut off to locate the device. BlackBerry is one step ahead of the game and soon will offer users a new app, which in the event that you lose or temporarily misplace your phone you can login to the “protect web portal” and activate the “loud ring” feature which will trigger the phone to send a loud beacon for one minute giving you time to find its whereabouts if close by.
This feature only works if the phone is switched on. It also overrides the silent mode and will function accordingly. The protect web portal allows you to setup a password to protect your personal data from possible intruders in the event your phone is lost in a public place. You can also create a “lost and found screen”.
In order to locate your Smartphone, the GPS function allows the portal to track the phones exact location. In the event the device is stolen a remote wipe feature can be used to wipe all data stored in both the phone and Micro-SD card to protect your information. There is a nifty little feature that backs up all data so you can easily restore your information to your new BlackBerry. Members of the Beta Zone can acquire the pre-release version of the app this week via invite codes but all other Blackberry user have to wait until later this year to utilize.
