Backing up your computer is essential; can you imagine losing all of your data stored on your computer or network? Your work, images, videos, games, etc.… Just thinking about it makes me squirm. Normally, you can choose to backup your computer online utilizing trusted companies such as Mozy or Carbonite. Your second option is an external hard drive. Until now there really wasn’t a reliable product that could do both. Hitachi has released a new product called the LifeStudio series, a product and software that allow you to simultaneously backup your files virtually and externally with a few clicks of the mouse.

Some have asked what the purpose is when they already have a perfectly functioning backup tool. Just having one or the other option limits you in many ways. For example, an external hard drive is still vulnerable to weather and fire. Some just can’t get past the trust issue for the virtual backup option. Uploading your files to a “Secure server” and then of course you have the monthly or yearly fee. I personally like the option to back up files in both manners.

Hitachi has made the product compatible with both Windows based computers and Macs, which is nice; normally, you get one or the other. Presently, you can find the LifeStudios product in various physical and online stores. Surprisingly cost is pretty inexpensive considering the features, you can meanwhile purchase your new backup device with 250-gigabyte for as little as $80.00. For mega storage, you can purchase a 2 terabyte desktop-size premium drive with the dockable thumb drive for $220.00.

The software organizes all of your data by type, dates and so on. Furthermore, when you detach and attach the thumb drive it resyncs newly added files, similar to the way an IPod functions
