Not only have we all been affected by the mass unemployment situation, but since the BP Oil spill, thousands now fear for their family’s livelihood because of the unexpected unemployment woes and this is just the beginning according economists. In the months ahead, BP will be closing down some of their operations, creating panic for fisherman and the people in the gulf. Expect there to be many challenges in the up coming months. Cost has reached ultimate highs; BP is starting to analyze their spending and extreme figures very closely and maybe cutting back near the end of the year. Therefore more workers will be out of a job and on the streets looking for work.
BP’s claims have been on the rise and the majority of fishing has been halted, leaving hundreds of fisherman out of jobs. Thousands are fighting to get paid and are trying to live day by day in this crisis. There has also been report by business in Florida that BP is rejecting claims, advising business that they were not detrimentally affected by the oil. Even though BP has hired 48,000 employees, this doesn’t make up for the loss in jobs from oyster and shrimp boats. There are multiple states that have been affected by the oil disaster and our government states that there is going to be at least a $2 billion loss on record this year due to the lapse in worker’s wages.
With a fresh face stepping in as Chief of Operations, the company should be moving forward and responding in a faster manner to the aftermath. Vessels have contributed to relief efforts and hopefully by next year, BP will have a tight control over the flow of responsibilities and compensate the effected parties in full. Even though new machines have taken away beach cleaning labor jobs, this process will in turn get the areas cleaned from oil sooner to allow God’s creatures to live and reproduce normally. Let’s all hope BP does what they are expected to do regardless of the cost. Our prayers go out to everyone in the gulf!
