Verizon to Launch Chrome OS Tablet Late November

Tech

Verizon is still pushing the envelope, attempting everything possible to become the number one provider of both cellular devices and now developers have created a tablet to try and compete with Apple’s iPad. The tablet is said to mimic the functional capabilities of HTC’s Nexus One smartphone. Ironically they have scheduled the release date to fall on Black Friday, the day after thanksgiving and the busiest shopping day of the year.

The tablet will run on the operating software chrome OS, which is supposed to be a faster, securer and simpler computing platform. The tablet will also feature a 1280×720 multi-touch display, 2GB of RAM, and a minimum of 32GB of storage. Google’s android phones are increasing in popularity and Samsung is expected to be premiering their Android tablet early September in Berlin.

With Google and Verizon’s latest shenanigans pertaining to net neutrality, I’m not so sure how many people will flock to their latest products but then again it wouldn’t shock me if they compiled record sales. Hopefully that won’t be the case. Surely they will do everything in their power to prevent their latest product from being a complete debacle.

What I think:

Google hasn’t really disclosed too many details about the new Chrome OS tablet, but hopefully the platform ranks with webOS and iOS. Google has only hinted that the new platform will use the chrome browser and window add-ons, so it’s difficult to speculate how user friendly the tablet will be. My guess is they will try and duplicate the simplicity of Apple’s iPad.

To be a success I would expect we should see speed, familiar icons and capabilities to sync popular features to make our lives a little easier. It’s just a waiting game, it seems that with every second new technology becomes old and then something new is ready to be revealed to the world.
