AOL Purchases TechCrunch

Tech

Once again, a giant buys up an independent opinion. There have been rumors and speculation that AOL was interested in purchasing TechCrunch, but until Tuesday it was just that a rumor. Now that the contract has been signed, I can only ask…What are AOL, Yahoo and Google’s intentions? Do they want to buy up all the sites and blogs that are independently owned that are worth anything to take complete control of the net? They claim they are purchasing these sites and blogs to expand their network, I believe their motives are influenced by power and they have to try what they can to stay near the top, another words they have to be “Movers” and “shakers”!

This I feel is an unfortunate event that is taking place by large corporations. I can see that the little people’s voice will slowly fade as everything is commercialized for profit and virtual real-estate. However TechCrunch was starting to become more focused on pumping out content for search engines then it was for the people. I can’t say that I blame them for selling…There isn’t many people that would turn down million dollar deals. It will be interesting to see how AOL utilizes the new acquisition to suit the 10 million readers each month. What is your take on the purchase? Do you think people will benefit or will this be the demise of the infamous TechCrunch?
