Facebook Movie

Facebook

I managed to scurry out of the house and grab a bite to eat and a movie this past weekend. We decided to go and watch the “Facebook” Movie. Why, you might ask? With all the controversial talk of Mark Zuckerberg and how he did many wrong to get where he is at peeked my interest to know more. Many have said that the story is more fiction then true but after little research around the web, most of the story appears to be true. Mark initially stole the idea of Facebook from 3 other Harvard students in which he tweaked and made an even better idea. Eventually he settled in court for upwards of 62 million dollars.

Sometime in the fall of 2003, Zuckerberg created a site called Facemash, which would soon be his open door to his billion dollar fortune.  The creation of Facemash started as an exclusive website for college students attending Harvard.  The site featured girls from the nine houses at Harvard who were pictured side by side, where other students could vote for which girl was hot and which girl was not.  In about 4 hours, the site shut down due to the massive hits on campus’s server. As soon as word got around, Mark was approached by three Harvard students about creating a site which would display each individual student and their interests.

Mark liked the idea, but had an even better concept which would soon be his claim to fame, Facebook.  Within a few months, “Facebook”, originally called “The Facebook” would go live on the web and be Harvard’s web-book for all current college students attending Harvard.  As time went by, the site was available through other prestigious Universities, such as Stanford, Columbia, Carnell, Brown, Darmouth and Yale.  Later spreading all over, reaching 19 million people.  Officially, Facebook was launched in February of 2004.

Currently, facebook is a social network for millions of people all over the world.  Companies have now created Facebook pages to accommodate the massive amount of traffic Facebook gets in return to have more customers within their business.  Facebook is funded through several investors, such as Peter Thiel, Accel Partners, Greylock Partners and Meritech Capital Partners.  The board members include the following: Mark Zuckerberg, Marc Andreessen, Jim Breyer, Don Graham and Peter Thiel  There are 1,700 employees and the main headquarters is located in Palto Alto, California where Zuckerberg moved to after dropping out of Harvard to explore the best opportunity and venture known to any 24 year old.
